 A conglomerate company is a company that owns more than one smaller company.

A subsidiary is a company controlled by a holding company - 

An Independent company is a company that is not being controlled or controlling any other companies - not in conglomerate control - often work with larger companies to get their product distributed. An example is Patrick Productions who made the Sitcom Deri Girls worked as part of a joint venture as part of channel 4 to get it distributed on TV. 

A24 is a product produced by an independent company as it does not own any other companies and isn't controlled by a company 

Synergy is where two brands merge together in hope for commercial success - When companies work as part of a joint venture, it is because it is mutually beneficial for both companies.  Wo Films produced 4 Lions.

For a commercial company the objective is to make as much money as possible.

Public service companies are companies funded by the public using TAX. For example the TV license. TV programmes also charge money such as ITV
